What is an IP address?
Your ISP (internet provider) allocates a numeric label, named the Internet Protocol (IP) address, to recognise one or more devices among rest. It is similar to a postal address.
There are four different types of IP addresses:
- public – indicative of the location of the network, used outside a network
- private – indicative of the location of the network, used inside a network
- static – indicate permanency
- dynamic – indicate permanency
